Although both clinical and health psychologists often examine mental health, the field of clinical psychology primarily focuses on diagnosing, understanding, and treating mental disorders, whereas health psychology examines the bidirectional relationship between mental and physical health. Clinical psychologists are mental health providers and usually provide their services through mental health units, psychiatric hospitals, private practice and academia. Health psychologists are behavioral health providers and deal with the behavioral dimensions of the physical health and illness.
